INSIDE THE STUDIO
concept
Cadhla Forde's work celebrates the intricate and non-verbal communication of non-human organisms, particularly in terms of organic growth. Her work seeks to resist the destructive human influence on nature by embracing the natural, non-linear world of growth through painting.
Forde's paintings reflect ideas of radical, organic growth through allowing each stroke to grow and expand freely without restriction. She achieves this effect through the use of terps, which enable each layer to interact with the previous one and build upon it in a way that mimics the processes of natural growth.
The resulting paintings have no discernible beginning or end, foreground or background, reflecting the non-linear nature of the natural world. By layering multiple mediums abstractly, Forde seeks to imitate the wild, unpredictable ways of nature. Emphasising the beauty of chaos within the natural world, Forde hopes to re-establish connections between humans and the nature. In this way, her work encourages us to rethink our relationship with the natural world and to honour the complex processes that sustain life on Earth.
